Why fridges are handled differently

A fridge cannot go in a skip. Both the coolant and the insulating foam contain gases controlled under the WEEE and F-gas rules, and they must be degassed by a licensed facility before the metal and plastic are recycled. A fridge is controlled as electrical waste, not as POPS, but either way it needs this specialist route.
