"The two young men could not have been more helpful. I'm not as steady on my feet these days and they carried everything down from the spare room without any fuss. Lovely manners, fair price."
"Quick response and a lovely bit of customer service. Booked in the morning and it was gone by teatime. Worked out cheaper than the skip I was about to hire. Highly recommend."
"Phoned around for quotes and Kruze came in cheapest by a good margin. Turned up exactly when they said and had the job done and dusted in no time. No complaints at all."

No. Mattresses are banned from skips and general waste, so they have to be collected separately, which is exactly what we do.
They're taken to specialist recycling where the foam, fibres and springs are separated and recovered rather than sent to landfill.
Yes. Mattresses, divan bases, headboards and full bed frames can all go in the same collection.
Yes. We carry mattresses down from upstairs rooms, so there's no wrestling it down the stairs yourself.
A single mattress is £45, a double £60, a king size £70 and a divan base £45, including collection and recycling, with better value the more you have us take at once.
We're a fully licensed waste carrier (CBDU597687) with public liability cover, verified customer reviews and a digital waste transfer note on every job.
Yes. Find a cheaper like-for-like licensed quote and we'll beat it by 10%, with no deposit to pay.
Over 85% is recycled or upcycled rather than sent to landfill, and everything is disposed of legally with a waste transfer note.
Card, bank transfer and cash are all fine. You can pay securely once the job is booked and you get a receipt every time.
Not by us, we're a paid service, but we'll be straight with you. Your local council runs a cheaper bulky waste collection if you can wait and can carry everything out yourself. We start from £24.99, collect the same day, and lift it from any room including upstairs.
Cheaper, yes, but slower and more restricted. You wait for a slot, there's a limit on how many items you can put out, and you carry it all to the kerbside yourself. We collect from anywhere in the property and take almost anything, so you're paying for speed and for not lifting it.
Not always. As long as we can get to the waste and the price is agreed beforehand, we can collect while you're out. Plenty of our landlord and estate agent customers book exactly that way.
Kruze handles mattress disposal across Leeds and West Yorkshire, in every size from single to super king, along with divan bases, bed frames and headboards. Mattresses are bulky and awkward and are increasingly turned away from landfill, so we take them to a dedicated recycling facility where the springs, foam and fabric are separated and reused.
Our team carries the mattress out from any room, including upstairs, so there is no dragging or lifting for you, and every collection comes with a waste transfer note. Same-day removal is available across Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, Halifax, Huddersfield, Harrogate and Barnsley, and we will beat any like-for-like licensed quote by 10%.
Old mattresses are bulky, unhygienic to store and refused by skips, so they hang around longer than almost anything else. We collect them from the bedroom and take them to specialist recycling.
A single mattress is £45, a double £60, a king £70 and a divan base £45. The price is the price you pay, labour and proper disposal, with nothing to pay until it is collected.
A mattress cannot go in a skip because the springs will not compact and the foam springs back, so it is charged per item and sent to a specialist recycler that separates the foam, fibres and metal springs for reuse. Contrary to a common myth, a domestic mattress is not POPS waste, but it still needs this dedicated route rather than general disposal.
No dragging it down the stairs or tying it to the car roof. Our two-person team carries it out from any floor and loads it for you.

There are five real ways to get rid of a mattress in Leeds, and we are only one of them. Three of the other four cost nothing. The right choice comes down to four questions: is the mattress clean and still labelled, can you get it out of the house yourself, can you wait for a date, and is it from a home you live in or a property you let out. The table below puts every route side by side, using what Leeds City Council publishes today.
| Route | What it costs | Who it suits | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kruze mattress collection | Single £45, double £60, king £70, divan base £45 | A deadline, stairs, more than one bed, landlords and letting agents | It is a paid service |
| Leeds City Council unwanted items collection | One free collection per financial year, then up to 3 more at £30 each | Private residents who can wait for a slot and carry the bed out | A dismantled bed counts as four items against a limit of five. Not available to landlords or businesses |
| Leeds household waste recycling centre | No charge for a household mattress | Anyone with a car, or a van with a permit | You load it, you drive it, and site staff cannot help you unload |
| Revive, Emmaus and other Leeds reuse charities | Free | A clean mattress with its fire safety label still attached | Soft furnishings without a fire label are refused, and not every charity takes beds |
| The retailer selling your new mattress | Set by the retailer | Anyone buying a replacement | Usually only on the day the new one is delivered, and it has to be booked with the order |
Council terms taken from the Leeds unwanted items collection page, the Leeds recycling sites page and the council's list of organisations that take unwanted items, all checked on 17 September 2026.
If you have one mattress, no deadline and someone to help you carry it outside, use your free council collection. You have already paid for it through council tax, and our guide to the Leeds council bulky waste collection explains how to get a slot when the calendar looks empty. If the mattress is clean and the label is still sewn on, give it to a reuse charity first, because somebody can sleep on it. If you are buying a new mattress anyway, ask the retailer at checkout whether they will take the old one away on delivery. If you own a car and the mattress fits in it, the tip is free, and our Leeds tip opening times guide lists every site.
We are the better choice when none of that fits. That usually means the mattress is upstairs and nobody can lift it, the move or tenancy ends this week, there is more than one bed, or the property is rented out.
Every charity in Leeds that takes beds asks the same question first: is the fire safety label still attached? Leeds City Council says it plainly on its own donation page. Items such as sofas, chairs and beds must carry fire safety labels, and Revive only accepts soft furnishings that have them.
This is not the charities being fussy. The Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988 apply to second hand furniture supplied in the course of business, which includes charity shops. Business Companion, the trading standards guidance service, says a mattress should carry a permanent label showing it meets BS 7177, and that anything which cannot be verified from its label should go to a recycling centre instead of being sold.
Check before you book anything. The label is normally sewn into a side seam or the end of the mattress. If it has been cut off, the mattress is not going to be reused, however good it looks. The same goes for a mattress that is stained, torn, damp or smells of smoke. Charities will turn those away at the door, and it is better to know before a van has made the trip. Our guide to free furniture collection in Leeds covers which charities collect beds and what else they refuse.
These are the situations we get asked about most, and they are the ones where a paid collection genuinely earns its price.
Leeds City Council's unwanted items collection is for private residents only and cannot be used by landlords or businesses. The recycling centres are the same. The council states that trade waste includes landlords bringing waste from rented properties, and that anyone bringing trade waste to a household site could be fined or imprisoned. A mattress left behind after a tenancy is business waste, so it needs a licensed waste carrier. We collect it and give you a digital waste transfer note under licence CBDU597687, which is the paperwork you need to show the waste was disposed of legally. If the tenant has left more than a bed, our landlord void clearance service clears the whole property in one visit.
The council does not come inside. Items must be left outdoors within your property boundary before 7am on collection day, and covered if they could soak up rain. A king size mattress on the second floor of a terrace is a two person job with a tight turn at the top of the stairs. We carry it out from any room on any floor, and we take the divan base, headboard and frame in the same visit.
This is where the council's item count catches people out. Leeds counts every part of a dismantled bed as a separate item, so one bed is four items and your collection covers five. Two beds are eight items, which means two collections, and only one of them is free each financial year. Clearing a spare room, a student let or a house after a bereavement usually means several mattresses at once, and one visit from us is simpler than waiting for two or three council slots.
Council collections can only be booked up to four weeks ahead, and the council warns that at times of high demand there may be no slots available. If you are completing on a sale, handing back keys or the new mattress arrives on Saturday, that wait does not work. Book with us before noon and we can often collect the same day across Leeds.
A few minutes of preparation makes any collection quicker, whoever does it.
The last point matters more than it sounds. The National Bed Federation estimates that 6.4 million mattresses are thrown away in the UK every year, and not all of them reach a legal site. Leeds City Council is clear about who carries the risk. If your waste is found fly tipped and traced back to you, you could be issued with a £200 fixed penalty notice or even prosecuted, whoever you paid to take it.
Yes, for private residents. Leeds City Council gives every household one free unwanted items collection per financial year, April to March, covering up to five items. Households receiving council tax support get up to four collections a year free. Reuse charities in Leeds will also collect a mattress for free if it is clean and still has its fire safety label.
Nothing if you use your free council collection, drop it at a recycling centre in your own car, or donate a labelled mattress to a charity. A second council collection in the same financial year is £30. A Kruze collection is £45 for a single, £60 for a double, £70 for a king and £45 for a divan base, carried out from any room.
No. The unwanted items collection is only for private residents and cannot be used by landlords or businesses, and the council treats waste from a rented property as trade waste at its recycling centres. A landlord or letting agent needs a licensed waste carrier and a waste transfer note.
Often, yes. Book before noon with a photo and your postcode and we will confirm a fixed price and, where the round allows, a same day slot.

Every council in our area takes a mattress at the household waste recycling centre for free. What they differ on is what a collection costs, how many items a bed counts as, and what happens to the mattress afterwards. Leeds counts a bed as four items against a five item allowance. Kirklees charges £31.80 for a mattress against £11.66 for an ordinary item. Barnsley counts the frame, the mattress and the headboard separately. North Yorkshire burns it and says so.
