How appliance moves are priced
For one or two appliances a van and driver is often all you need, at £75 for the first hour then £40 for each additional hour, which covers the drive, the lift and setting the item down where you want it. Where an appliance is very heavy, or has to come down stairs or out of a tight kitchen, two men and a van at £100 for the first hour then £55 for each additional hour is safer and quicker. We agree the fixed price up front so there are no surprises. The quote is the same whether it is a single unit or several, and nothing is added for stairs or a longer carry.
What the crew actually does
We disconnect appliances where it is straightforward, and secure doors and drums so nothing swings open or rolls around on the drive. Each unit is moved upright on straps to protect the motor, the seals and the internal parts. Fridges and freezers in particular are kept upright in transit so the gas settles correctly and they run properly once plugged back in. Everything is blanket padded so corners do not chip and floors do not scratch, and we position the appliance in its new spot rather than leaving it stranded in the hallway. If plumbing or gas needs a qualified engineer we will always say so rather than attempt it, and we simply handle the lifting, transport and safe placement of the appliance itself.
The right van for the job
A medium or Luton van with a low load height suits appliances best, and a tail lift makes loading a full height fridge or a heavy cooker safe rather than a struggle. For several large units moving together we size up so nothing has to be wedged in under pressure against another appliance, which is where dents and scratches usually happen.
