Leeds Tip Opening Times 2026: Every Centre

Leeds has eight household waste recycling centres, open seven days a week. From 30 March to 25 October 2026 they open 8am to 6pm, and through winter they open 8am to 4pm, with last entry 15 minutes before closing. They are closed only on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. This guide lists every Leeds tip with its address, explains the van permit rule that catches people out, and sets out exactly what the sites will not take. Leeds tip opening times in 2026

All eight sites share the same hours, and those hours change with the season.

Last entry is 15 minutes before closing, so aim to arrive in good time. The sites are open every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Weekend mornings and sunny bank holidays are the busiest, so a weekday visit will save you queuing.

Here are all eight sites with their addresses. Any Leeds resident can use any of them.

Two site notes worth knowing. Kirkstall is the only Leeds tip that accepts asbestos, and only by appointment. Otley is not currently accepting rubble or plasterboard, so take DIY waste elsewhere.

Do you need to book a Leeds tip slot?

No. General household waste does not need a booking, so you can turn up within opening hours. There are still a few rules the sites enforce on every visit.

• You must live within the Leeds City Council boundary to use the sites.
• Children under 16 and pets must stay in the vehicle at all times.
• For safety reasons you cannot enter a site on foot, so you need a vehicle.

The only appointment needed is for asbestos at Kirkstall, which is handled separately for safety reasons.

Taking a van, pickup or trailer? You need a permit

This is the one that trips people up. A normal car, estate, hatchback or saloon needs no permit. But if you turn up in a van, a four wheel drive pickup, or towing a trailer, you need a free commercial vehicle permit booked in advance, or you will be turned away at the gate.

The permit scheme is free but limited. Residents can get up to 12 permits a year for their own van, and fewer for borrowed, hired or company vehicles. So if you have hired a van for the weekend to shift a house clearance, sort the permit first, or the trip is wasted.

What the Leeds tips will not take

The sites take most household waste and recycling, but there are firm limits and some outright bans. These are the ones that send people home with a full boot.

DIY and building waste is capped. Free disposal of DIY waste is limited to four visits per month per household, and each visit allows either two 50 litre bags or one large item up to 2m by 0.75m. That covers rubble, hardcore, soil, plasterboard and sanitary ceramics like old toilets and sinks. Anything over that allowance is charged at the Kirkstall or Seacroft transfer stations.

Tyres and chemicals are limited. You can bring up to four car or motorcycle tyres, and up to five litres each of engine oil, garden chemicals or household chemicals.

Not accepted at all:

• Tarmac and asphalt
• Industrial, forklift and earth moving tyres
• Gas cylinders and fire extinguishers
• Pet waste (large quantities are taken at Kirkstall only, for a fee)
• Asbestos, except at Kirkstall by appointment
• Electric vehicle batteries

Trade and business waste is banned

The recycling centres are for household waste only. Bringing trade or business waste to a Leeds tip is an offence that can lead to a fine or imprisonment, and that includes landlords bringing waste from a rented property they own. What to do when the tip cannot help

The tip is great for a car boot of general waste. It is no help when you hit one of these, which is most bigger jobs.

• You have more DIY waste than the monthly allowance.
• You do not have a van permit and cannot fit it in a car.
• The item is banned, or the load is trade or landlord waste.
• You cannot lift it, transport it, or get to a site in opening hours.
