Moving House in Bradford: Costs and Parking
Bradford moves have their own set of problems, and none of them are about the distance. They are about hills, stone terraces and converted mills.

The back to back terraces
Bradford has more back to back housing than almost anywhere else in the country. The practical effect on moving day is that there is no rear access, the front door often opens straight onto the pavement, and the staircase is steep and turns tightly at the top.
Wardrobes and large sofas frequently will not go up or down in one piece. We dismantle where we can, but it is worth measuring the stair turn before you buy anything large for a terrace.
Mill conversions
Listers Mill, Salts Mill and the smaller conversions around Shipley and Little Germany are beautiful and genuinely difficult to move into. Expect a goods lift rather than a passenger one, a loading bay that has to be booked with the building manager, and long internal corridors between the lift and the flat.
Ring the management company before you book the crew and ask three things: can the lift be reserved, is there a loading bay, and are there restricted move-in hours. Many conversions only allow moves between set times on weekdays.
The hills
Streets around Great Horton, Wibsey and Undercliffe are steep enough that where the van stops matters more than usual. Parking above the property rather than below it makes a real difference when the crew is carrying a washing machine.
In winter, a steep cobbled or setted street after frost is a genuine hazard. If your street is like that, tell us when you book so we can plan the parking rather than discover it on the day.
Parking and permits
Bradford Council can suspend parking bays for a move if you apply in advance. On the tighter terraced streets it is usually the difference between a thirty metre carry and a five metre one, and at five hours on the clock it pays for itself.

Measuring before you commit
On a back to back the staircase is the constraint, not the front door. Before you buy or move anything large, measure the narrowest point of the stair turn and the height of the ceiling above it.
Where something genuinely will not go, the options are dismantling it, taking a window out, or accepting it stays. We will tell you which of those applies when we see the photos rather than discovering it with the sofa halfway up.
What it costs to leave things behind
Almost every move leaves a pile. Paying removal rates to transport things you intend to bin is the most common avoidable cost on moving day.
Clearance starts at £24.99 and runs on the standard load tables, so a quarter van of unwanted furniture is from £50. Doing it on the same visit as the move is cheaper than booking it separately, and it means the old place is left clean for the landlord or the buyer.
Moving into Bradford from elsewhere

Storage between dates
If your sale and purchase do not land on the same day, an overnight hold is far cheaper than two separate moves. We can load, hold the van, and deliver the following morning.

On the tighter streets the single most useful thing you can do is have someone hold the space outside the door from early morning. It costs nothing and it routinely saves an hour of walking, which at £55 an hour after the first is real money.
