Man With a Van Prices in Leeds: 2026 Rates
Most Leeds companies will not publish a man with a van price, which makes it very hard to work out whether you are being quoted fairly. Here is the whole pricing model in one place.
You are paying for van space, not time
Rubbish removal is priced by how much room your waste takes up in the van, plus what it costs to dispose of it. That is why a van full of light cardboard costs less than half a van of soil.

Heavy waste is priced by weight instead
Soil, rubble, tiles and plaster are dense, so a quarter of a van can be heavier than a full van of furniture. For those we price by weight, which usually works out cheaper for you than being charged as a full load.

Man and van or skip hire?
A skip sounds cheaper until you add up what it actually involves. A 4 yard skip is £246 and it arrives empty. You load it, in your own time, and you wait for collection. If it sits on the road you may need a permit from the council.
A half van load is from £100 and includes two people loading it for you, usually within a few hours of you calling. For most household clear outs the van is both cheaper and faster.
A skip still wins when you are running a project over several days and want somewhere to throw things as you go, or when the waste is heavy rubble and you are filling it steadily.
Things a skip will not take but we will
Skip companies refuse mattresses, sofas, fridges, batteries, asbestos and chemicals. That is a restriction on skips, not on us. We collect mattresses and sofas by hand, we send fridges for degassing, and we broker asbestos to a licensed specialist.
How to get an accurate price in one message

What a DIY tip run actually costs you
The free option is only free if you ignore what it takes. Leeds household waste sites are free for cars, but the moment you use a van, a pickup or a trailer you need a permit from the council, and permits are issued for a limited number of visits a year. Hire vans are refused outright at several sites.
Then there is the rest of it. Van hire for a day is commonly £60 to £90 before fuel and the excess on the insurance. Two trips across Leeds and back is most of a Saturday. You do all the lifting, including whatever is at the top of the stairs, and you still have to load and unload twice.
For a single carload of light waste, do it yourself. For anything that needs a van, a half load at £100 with two people doing the carrying is usually cheaper once the hire, the fuel and the day are counted.

Why two vans quote different prices for the same pile
Three things explain almost every gap between quotes.
Disposal cost is not the same for every material. A van of mixed household waste, a van of soil and a van of mattresses cost very different amounts to tip. A quote that ignores what the waste actually is will get corrected on the day, usually upwards.
Some quotes are for kerbside only. If the price assumes you have carried everything outside, it is not comparable to a price that includes two people going up to a back bedroom.
Some operators are not licensed. A collector who fly tips has no disposal cost at all, which is exactly why they can undercut everyone. That saving becomes your problem if the load is traced back, because under the household duty of care the penalty follows the person who produced the waste.

What we cannot take
Very little, but the exceptions matter. Asbestos is brokered to a licensed specialist rather than carried by us, and the specialist issues the consignment note. Clinical and chemical waste is handled under separate arrangements. Everything else on the usual refusal lists, including mattresses, sofas, fridges and paint, we collect as a matter of routine.

Do you charge more at weekends?
