Taxi vs train from Leeds to Leeds Bradford Airport

Priced honestly for a dawn flight from LBA, here is how the options really compare.

OptionTypical costThe catch
Train and connectionsthe A1 Flyer bus at around £5 per personTimetables, luggage on your knee and no door pickup
App or metered taximoves with demandSurge pricing at peak times and no fixed total until you are in the car
Kruze fixed fare£16 total, door to doorNone. Fixed before you travel, flight tracking and free wait time included

Train prices are per person, the Kruze fare covers the whole car. For two or more travellers with luggage, a fixed £16 door-to-door run usually wins on money and always wins on effort. For a dawn flight from LBA, it is not close.

Leeds Bradford Airport to Leeds city centre and Leeds train station

A taxi between Leeds Bradford Airport and Leeds city centre covers roughly 8 miles, and a Kruze fixed fare starts at £16 for a saloon, confirmed from your exact pickup postcode before you book. Leeds train station sits inside the city centre, so the same run and the same fare cover you whether you are heading for the station concourse, a hotel on Wellington Street or an office near the Headrow. Airport parking or entry fees are added at cost and nothing else moves.

There is no railway station at Leeds Bradford Airport. The airport says so itself. Rail passengers arrive into Leeds, Bradford Interchange or Harrogate and then need an onward connection by bus or taxi to reach the terminal. That one fact sits behind most of the searches that land on this page, so it is worth stating before anything else. If you have been looking for a direct train to the airport, there is not one to find.

What follows is the honest version of the choice: what each option actually costs, where the bus genuinely beats us, and the airport rules that catch people out at the kerb.

Three ways between Leeds city centre and LBA

All three work. They suit different journeys, and the right answer depends on how many of you there are, how much luggage you have and what time your flight goes.

OptionWhat it costsThe catch
Flyer A1 bus, Leeds to LBA via Kirkstall, Horsforth and RawdonPriced per person by Transdev, who publish the current fareRuns to a timetable, luggage stays with you on board, and no door pickup at either end
Train into Leeds, then the Flyer A1Two fares, or one through rail and bus ticketYou still need the bus at the end, because no train reaches the terminal
Kruze fixed fare, door to doorFrom £16 saloon, from £18 estate, executive or MPV8Airport parking or entry fees added at cost. No meter and no surge

Bus routes confirmed against Transdev FLYER services and timetables and Leeds Bradford Airport, getting to and from, both checked 20/09/2026. Kruze fares are the published figures from the fare table above.

Where the bus beats us, plainly. If you are travelling on your own with hand luggage and your flight goes at a reasonable hour, the Flyer A1 is cheaper than any taxi and we are not going to pretend otherwise. For one person travelling light, take the bus. It stops being the better answer the moment there are two of you, or a pair of hold bags, or a 05:00 check in, because a bus fare is charged per person while a fixed taxi fare covers the whole car. For four or more travelling together, an MPV for group travel splits further per head than any per person bus ticket can.

One timing note, and it is current rather than permanent. Transdev listed emergency roadworks at Dyneley Arms and at Bayton Lane delaying Flyer A1, A2 and A3 services from 11 September 2026, still showing as active when we checked on 20/09/2026. If you are building a tight connection around the bus, check the live service updates before you commit to it. Roadworks clear, so treat this as a thing to verify rather than a permanent state of the world.

The nearest train station to Leeds Bradford Airport

The nearest railway station to the airport is Horsforth, on Station Road, Horsforth, LS18 5NL. It is run by Northern and sits on the Leeds to Harrogate line. Its ticket office opens Monday to Saturday 06:10 to 19:00 and Sunday 09:15 to 16:30, which matters if you are travelling before dawn for an early departure and were planning to buy a ticket on the day.

Horsforth being nearest does not make it convenient. You still have to cover the last stretch to the terminal, and the airport's own advice is that rail passengers need an onward connection by taxi or bus. The airport names Leeds to Harrogate and Leeds to Ilkley as the useful Northern Trains lines, and notes that through rail and bus tickets are available, which is the tidiest version of the train option if you want one ticket rather than two.

The Flyer network is run by Transdev and links the airport to the major rail hubs. These are the three routes as published:

RouteRuns betweenVia
Flyer A1Leeds and Leeds Bradford AirportKirkstall, Horsforth, Rawdon
Flyer A2Bradford, Leeds Bradford Airport and HarrogateGreengates, Apperley Bridge, Yeadon, Pool
Flyer A3Bradford, Leeds Bradford Airport and OtleyShipley, Guiseley, Yeadon, Pool

Routes as published by Transdev, checked 20/09/2026. Station details from Northern, Horsforth station.

Coming the other way, from the terminal into the city, the arithmetic is the same in reverse. A fixed fare from the airport to Leeds train station is the same 8 mile run as the outbound leg. Where it tends to earn its money is on the return, because you are landing rather than departing, and a bag that has been delayed on the belt does not cost you anything when your driver is watching the flight rather than a meter.

Dropping off and picking up at the terminal

The airport postcode for satnav is LS19 7TU, which routes you to the access road off Whitehouse Lane for the Pick Up and Drop Off, Meet and Greet and Short Stay car parks.

The Pick Up and Drop Off car park is the closest to the building, about a one minute walk from the terminal. It is chargeable and cashless, and you pay at the barrier on the way out rather than on the way in. The airport also runs a One Hour Free car park, which is the one worth knowing about if you are collecting somebody and their flight is running late. Car park prices change, so check the airport's own parking page on the day rather than trusting a figure quoted on anybody else's website, including this one.

If a friend or a family member can collect you, that costs nothing beyond the drop off charge and it will always be cheaper than booking us. That is an obvious point and it gets left out of most airport taxi pages, which is exactly why it is here. Book a car when the convenience is worth paying for, not because a website told you there was no alternative.

For a pre-booked pickup, the driver Kruze Taxi connects you with can meet you inside with a name board or at the designated pickup point, whichever you prefer when you book. That is the airport meet and greet option. Flight tracking and free wait time are included on airport runs, so a delayed landing does not turn into a second conversation about money.

Other LBA runs, and where this fits

Leeds city centre is the busiest leg into the airport, but it is not the only one we price. If you are starting further out, the route pages carry their own fixed fares rather than an estimate built from this one. Harrogate to Leeds Bradford Airport is the best established of them and covers the run down through Pool. Bradford to LBA does the same from the other side of the airport, and is the leg the Flyer A2 and A3 also serve if you would rather take the bus.

For a station transfer that is not an airport run at all, such as Leeds to York or a connection into Bradford Interchange, train station transfers is the page that prices it. Longer journeys where the airport is the wrong answer entirely, including runs to other airports or cross country trips, sit on long distance transfers.

Two more worth knowing about. If cost is the deciding factor on a short central Leeds journey, economy taxi in Leeds is the cheaper tier. If a passenger needs step free access, a ramp or room for a wheelchair, book through wheelchair accessible taxis rather than a standard saloon, because the vehicle has to be the right one from the start and that is not something to sort out at the kerb.

Leeds city centre and station transfer questions

How much is a taxi from Leeds train station to Leeds Bradford Airport?
From £16 as a fixed fare in a saloon, and from £18 in an estate, executive or MPV8. Leeds train station is in the city centre, so it is the same 8 mile run as any central Leeds pickup. The exact figure is confirmed from your pickup postcode before you book, and airport parking or entry fees are added at cost.

Is there a train station at Leeds Bradford Airport?
No. There is no railway station at the terminal and no direct train to the airport. The nearest station is Horsforth, and the airport's own guidance is that rail passengers need an onward connection by taxi or bus. The Flyer A1 links Leeds station to the terminal directly.

How long does the run between the city centre and LBA take?
The distance is about 8 miles, and the honest answer on time is that it varies. The route runs through Horsforth and Rawdon rather than along a motorway, and the Transdev roadworks noted above were still affecting the area when we checked. That variability is the reason the fare is fixed in advance rather than metered. You are not charged for traffic you did not cause.

Should I pre-book or sort something out when I land?
Kruze Taxi is a pre-booked service and is launching soon across Leeds and West Yorkshire, so pre-booking is how it works rather than a preference. Register your interest and you will be first to book when it goes live. If you need a car at the kerb this week, the Flyer A1 or the airport's own taxi provision will serve you better than waiting on us, and we would rather say that than waste your time.
